Diana Cumming: Paintings

Serpentine South Gallery 4 Apr — 10 May 1987 Free

An exhibition of Diana Cumming’s early work and more recent paintings.

This exhibition presented a selection of Cumming’s early work, beginning in 1953, as well as some of her more recent paintings. For Cumming, pale figures immersed in water provide a constant motif. Her more recent works included a dreamlike series of paintings in which musicians played a significant role.

Works displayed in the exhibition included The Creation (1953), Swimming Race (1962-3), The Double Bass Player (1986), and The Violinist (1986-7).
