Frank Bowling: Painting

Serpentine South Gallery 1–31 Mar 1986 Free

An exhibition of Frank Bowling’s paintings, featuring his paint-encrusted grids.

Bowling is a British artist born in Guyana in 1936. In 2005, he was elected a member of the Royal Academy of Arts, and in 2008 was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

The exhibition presented Bowling’s recent paint-encrusted grids. These abstract works often incorporated linear accents formed by strips of plastic foam.

This exhibition ran concurrently with exhibitions of works by John Gibbons and Clyde Hopkins at the Serpentine Gallery.
