For the inaugural exhibition following the gallery’s renovation, the Serpentine presented the largest-scale showing of Piero Manzoni’s work since 1974.
This exhibition included 150 works and spanned the Italian artist’s most creative working years from 1957 until his untimely death at the age of 29 in 1963.
The exhibition provided an important opportunity to look at an artist whose work not only anticipated many of the major artistic directions of the late 1960s and 1970s, but whose legacy can be found in the work of some of Britain’s most prominent artists working at the time of the exhibition and since.
