Summer Show 1 [1974]

This first summer show for 1974 presented recent work by Julian Cooper, Jennifer Durrant, Mark Edwards and Terence New.

The exhibition included a selection of Mark Edwards’ photographs taken over the previous six years, ranging from those taken during his student days, some from his first trip to India never shown before, and photos from two further visits to India.

In the early 1970s, Cumbria-born landscape and mountain painter Julian Cooper was a recent graduate of Goldsmith’s, and this was one of his first public shows.

Having first studied at Brighton College of Art in the late 1950s, abstract painter Jennifer Durrant graduated from the Slade School of Art in 1966. In 1994, she was elected a member of the Royal Academy.

Terence [Terry] New studied at Wimbledon School of Art and Hornsey College of Art before undertaking an MA at the Royal College of Art. In addition to his practice as a sculptor, New has gone on to serve as Head of Fine Art at the Royal Academy Schools (1986-2011) and as President of the Royal British Society of Sculptors.
