Map, a new print by artist Michael Craig-Martin, was produced on the occasion of the opening of the new Serpentine Sackler Gallery. Conceived as a map that connects the Serpentine Galleries’ two spaces, Craig-Martin has turned the parks surrounding the buildings, including Kensington Gardens, Hyde Park and the Serpentine Lake, into a multi-coloured, playful landscape that is immediately recognisable as a Michael Craig-Martin original.
Michael Craig-Martin (b. 1941, Dublin) lives and works in London. His early work was produced in a number of forms and media and ranged from conceptual works to sculptures and photographs. Since the 1990s he has largely worked with paintings, prints and often large-scale wall paintings that combine unusual assortments of everyday objects in clearly delineated and often intensely bright colours.
