A World View: John Latham

As a pioneer of British conceptual art, John Latham (1921-2006) has exerted a powerful and lasting influence, not only on his peers but on generations of younger artists. In spring 2017, the Serpentine hosted an exhibition that encompassed all strands of Latham’s extraordinary practice, including sculpture, installation, painting, film, land art, engineering, found-object assemblage, performance and the artist’s theoretical writings.

Zaha Hadid: Early Paintings and Drawings

The Serpentine presented an exhibition of paintings and the rarely seen drawings of the pioneering and visionary architect Zaha Hadid. The exhibition took place in the Serpentine Sackler Gallery, an extension completed in 2013 and one of Zaha Hadid Architects’ first permanent buildings in central London.

Etel Adnan: The Weight of the World

Serpentine Galleries presented the works of painter, essayist and poet Etel Adnan, who was born in 1925 in Beirut, Lebanon. In her first solo exhibition in a UK public institution, the Serpentine showed work from across her career and including paintings, drawings, poetry, film and tapestry.

The Serpentine presented the first major exhibition of work by Kerstin Brätsch and Adele Röder in a UK public institution. Brätsch and Röder are based in New York and London. While each has her own practice, the artists have worked collaboratively as DAS INSTITUT since 2007.
