Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster’s artistic practice is restlessly cross-disciplinary, taking cues from film, literature, architecture, philosophy and critical theory. Gonzalez-Foerster uses live performance and holographic projections that conflate characters from history, literature and film with their sociological sources and ramifications. González-Foerster has had solo exhibitions at the Centre Pompidou (2002 and 2015); Kunsthalle Zürich (2004); Musée d’art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (2007); Tate Modern (2008); Dia Art Foundation (2009); Guggenheim Museum (2011) and Palacio de Cristal, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (2014). Select group exhibitions include: Documenta (2002); the São Paulo Biennial (2006); Skulptur Projekte Münster (2007) and the Venice Biennale (2009). Gonzalez-Foerster is the recipient of the Mies van der Rohe Award (1996–97) and the Marcel Duchamp Award (2002).
