Jennifer Durrant: Paintings

Serpentine South Gallery 14 May — 14 Jun 1987 Free

Several large canvases and a number of related works on paper constituted this exhibition by the British painter Jennifer Durrant.

Durrant’s featured paintings combined a large-scale format with a use of colour that was sometimes celebratory in tone, other times quieter and more subdued.

The works selected for the exhibition were from a period of 12 years, as well as a new series fresh from her studio. The show also featured some paintings from the 1970s never before seen in public.

Works included Cry (1985), Little Deaths Series…it came to pass (1985–6), Nearing the End (1986–87), High Fly Painting (1978), Drowning and Dreaming (1982), and Wounds for Treasure Series (Last) (1983).
