Kevin Atherton: One Man Show

Serpentine South Gallery 27 Mar — 30 May 1988 Free

Kevin Atherton, for his project One Man Show, conceived a complex series of collaborations, resulting in a sculpture in three parts.

One Man Show used the East Gallery as a key to understanding the sculpture, which occupied the front lawn of the Serpentine Gallery. Its components were a bronze figure, cast from a randomly chosen visitor to the gallery (Robert Moule); a steel structure, precisely echoing the volume of the East Gallery, fabricated as a conventional linear structure awaiting cladding; and a monumental developer’s display board advertising Atherton’s sculpture, his client and collaborators. Atherton saw One Man Show as a culmination of his work over the previous six years.
