Michael Simpson: Paintings

31 Aug — 29 Sep 1985 Free

A solo show of paintings by the Dorset-born artist.

In the Serpentine Gallery’s North Gallery, Simpson showed four paintings, each exceeding 10 by 12 feet in size.

The works included were The Rattle and the Bell, The Love Locked, The Leper Squint (2nd version), and Burial of the Books. In the last of these paintings, Simpson covered the canvas with a cascade of books of various sizes, open and closed.

The Serpentine Gallery exhibition followed on from his 1983 show at the Arnolfini in Bristol.
