Zygmunt Bauman, sociologist and professor at University of Leeds (Emeritus Professor since 1990), is best known for his analyses of the links between modernity and the Holocaust and of postmodern consumerism. His seminal book, Liquid Modernity (2000), has come to redefine our understanding of agency, individuality and uncertainty in the 21st century.
Between June and October 2014, Serpentine Galleries presented Park Nights, an annual series of live art, poetry, music, film, literature, performance and theory. In 2014 eight events took place on selected Friday evenings in the unique environment of the Serpentine Pavilion 2014, designed by Chilean architect Smiljan Radić.
