By approaching construction with curiosity and wonder, by systematically rethinking his architectural practice, by freeing himself from all preconceived notions about function, dimension, scale, style and architectural references, Junya Ishigami tries to find the most appropriate architecture for each project - Isabelle Gaudefroy (excerpt from exhibition guide). You can visit the Serpentine Pavilion daily from 10am-6pm until Sunday 6 October. Photo: Harry Richards #SerpentinePavilion2019

'How would I paint America in 2019? Oh my, I would paint it in multi-multi-multi-colours, which I have done before, but I would make it more obvious.' - Faith Ringgold speaking to Will Gompertz for the BBC, 2019. _________________________________________ #FaithRinggold, Subway Graffiti #2 of 3, 1987 Collection of Charlotte and Herbert S. FINAL DAY to see the Faith Ringgold exhibition! The Serpentine Galleries are open until 6pm today. ___________________________________________ Coming to Jones Road was prompted by Faith Ringgold’s move from Harlem to Engelwood, New Jersey, in 1992 and the resistance she experienced from the predominantly white neighbourhood when she was building a new studio. In response to this hostility, she researched the journey of escaped slaves from the Southern to Northern American states on the Underground Railroad to New Jersey. The landscapes in this series are inspired by the woodland garden at her house and studio on Jones Road, coincidentally also Ringgold’s maiden name. _____________________________________________ #FaithRinggold, Coming to Jones Road Part 2 #2: We Here Aunt Emmy Got Us Now, 2010 Private Collection, courtesy Pippy Houldsworth Gallery, London

FINAL DAY to see the Faith Ringgold exhibition! _________________________________________________ 'I love American People #17: The Artist and His Model (1966) so much. In 1966, there were many black male artists, or black men in general, who were beginning to express their resistance to segregation by having white female lovers. And yet there was still much formal and informal resistance to the idea of interracial relationships, in particular in regard to black men and white women. The charge of black lust for white women had been the rallying call of white racism and lynching during the long unproductive period in race relations between the end of the Civil War and the middle decades of the twentieth century when the Civil Rights Movement began in earnest.' - Michele Wallace (catalogue excerpt). _________________________________________ #FaithRinggold, American People #17: The Artist and His Model, 1966 Oil on canvas Private Collection, courtesy Pippy Houldsworth Gallery, London
