Artist Albert Potrony invited educators to debate school readiness using the Play as Radical Practice toolkit.
As Ofsted introduced the controversial Bold Beginnings report, which placed emphasis on formal education over play, we invited early years practitioners to question the school-ification discourse and re-imagine what it means to be ready for school.
In this event, Potrony talked through his 2016 Changing Play commission and the development of the Play As Radical Practice toolkit developed in partnership with the Portman Early Childhood Centre. The toolkit is designed to support teachers in forming solidarities with the children they work. How can we prepare schools for children? How can we support play in early years education?
The toolkits were available for free to participants.
Changing Play is an ongoing partnership with the Portman Early Childhood Centre in Westminster, which brings together artists, children, families and educators to critically reconsider early years education and care.
