Drawings of People

Serpentine South Gallery 20 December 1975 — 18 January 1976 Free

kitAn exhibition presenting English portraiture at the time revealed how contemporary artists were approaching drawing.

This substantial exhibition sought to present the current state of English portraiture and to reveal how contemporary artists were approaching drawing at the time. Patrick George selected the show through his purchases of drawings for the Arts Council. The majority of the fifty-eight drawings on display dated from the previous five years.

Works in the show included Craigie Aitchison’s Man standing (blue), Anthony Eyton’s Liverpool Street Station, Anthony Farrell’s Bather undressing, Lucian Freud’s In Hospital, Anthony Green’s Working drawing for 13th Wedding Anniversary, and Leon Kossoff’s Children’s Swimming Pool I.
