Serpentine Cinema: Sophie Cundale, After Picasso, God

Peckhamplex Cinema, SE15 4ST 17 Feb 2016 Free

Artist Sophie Cundale presents the premiere of her new film work, After Picasso, God.

The film sees a woman (played by Cundale) visit a hypnotist to address an unwanted addiction. As part of her cure, objects, people and images are transformed through hypnosis; pain is bought to the surface and removed through analgesia. The title refers to the artist Dora Maar, Picasso’s lover and muse, who after the break-up of their affair, declared: “After Picasso, Only God.”

After Picasso, God is written and directed by Cundale and has been co-commissioned by Serpentine and South London Gallery.

Sophie Cundale (b.1987) lives and works in London. As in After Picasso, God, her works are narratives where the story and reality play off each other. Video and performance are the medium. Previous works have been shown or screened at the Serpentine Galleries’ 2011 Garden Marathon, South London Gallery, Chisenhale and at the PAMI festival.
