Paul Maheke will talk about his 2015 Moving Up commission developed in collaboration with Year 6 pupils from Gateway Academy and the development of The Perfect School? a classroom game designed to be used by teachers and children to facilitate an exchange about their concerns and to rethink how schools can be. The project draws on the lived experiences of children navigating the education system and their relationships with teachers.
Through the workshop we will use imagination and discussion to think through school structures and imagine new possibilities for being together in school.
The workshop is open to anybody who is working in schools or is interested in working with children and young people.
Moving Up is a series of workshops in which artists, teachers and children come together to reflect on the transition from primary to secondary school. The projects create a temporary space where children can develop the tools to support one another and think about how schools could be better.
