Cecily Brown: Picture Making

Cecily Brown takes us on a tour around her exhibition Picture Making.

For over three decades, the artist has produced a dynamic body of painting characterised by vigorous brushstrokes, vivid colour and all-over compositions that draw viewers into a space of active looking.

At Serpentine, she presents paintings inspired by the gallery’s unique location in Kensington Gardens, alongside a selection of key works dating back to 2001 and recent monotypes and drawings. Together they gesture to Brown’s early memories of the English landscape, her fascination with children’s book illustrations, and the darker undercurrents of cautionary tales.
