Chris Ofili

Serpentine South Gallery 29 Sep — 1 Nov 1998 Free

This, the first solo exhibition of Chris Ofili’s work in London, brought together approximately 25 paintings created over six years.

This exhibition showcased Ofili’s eclectic approach since he graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1993.

Ofili won the 1998 Turner Prize for his acclaimed exhibition at Southampton City Art Gallery, organised in partnership with the Serpentine Gallery. The show included three works from his series Captain Shit, Ofili’s invented, glow-in-the-dark comic book superhero; Blossom and Foxy Roxy, from his more recent series of images of porn stars; as well as examples from earlier series such as Afrodizzia, Popcorn Tits and Flowerheads.
