Hamish Fulton: Bird Song – A Selection of Walks Made on the British Isles

Serpentine South Gallery 8 Jun — 14 Jul 1991 Free

This exhibition was the first opportunity to see Hamish Fulton’s new work in England.

It was also his first solo show in Britain since his exhibition at The Whitechapel Gallery in 1979. Apart from his best-known photographic work (the result of his remote walks throughout the world), Fulton made new wall-paintings specifically for the Serpentine Gallery. These were word-works and simple but evocative horizontal lines, painted directly on the wall.
