Serpentine North Gallery 13 May 2022 5:30-8pm Free

Coinciding with the exhibition Radio Ballads, Serpentine and ArtReview will host a panel discussion on Friday 13th May with artists Rory Pilgrim and Helen Cammock, Civic Curator, Serpentine, Amal Khalaf, New Town Culture Curator, Marijke Steedman, in conversation with ArtReview Editor-in-Chief Mark Rappolt.

Over three years, artists Sonia Boyce (Venice Biennale 2022 Golden Lion Winner), Helen Cammock, Rory Pilgrim and Ilona Sagar have been embedded in social care services and community settings in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, facilitated through the council’s New Town Culture programme.

Building on Serpentine’s ongoing critical investigation of the role of artists in political and civic life, Radio Ballads asks how art practices can become part of systemic transformation. The exhibition presents new film commissions alongside paintings, drawings and contextual materials that share each project’s collaborative research process. This panel discussion will explore the conceptual framework of the artists and the central themes to the exhibition.
