Serpentine Gallery: Weekend Music and Dance Events

Serpentine South Gallery 27 May — 11 Jun 1978 Free

A series of performances were staged on the Serpentine Gallery’s North Lawn, including Mike Westbrook’s Brass Band, the Cycles Dance Company and The Festival Brass Consort.

On three consecutive weekends from 27 May–11 June, performances were staged on the Serpentine Gallery’s North Lawn. First to perform was Mike Westbrook’s Brass Band over the Bank Holiday weekend. The band formed in 1973 and toured extensively throughout Britain and Europe, appearing in a variety of venues from factories to supermarkets. Their musical entertainment included folk songs, free improvisation, Renaissance music, jazz classics, and Mike Westbrook originals.

The next performers were the Cycles Dance Company, whose repertoire reflected a wide style of contemporary dance. The last performance of the weekend series was by The Festival Brass Consort. This group of freelance musicians performed a range of music from 16th century to contemporary composers.
