YOUR PRESENCE ALONE CHANGES HOW OTHERS BREATHE
“We are tired of passive art, we are tired of complacent consumption” – Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley.
Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley and Serpentine Arts Technologies invite you to playtest an interactive murder mystery: YOUR PRESENCE ALONE CHANGES HOW OTHERS BREATHE.
This is the second live playtesting and feedback event for new work and gaming prototypes by artist and game designer Danielle Braithwaite-Shirley. The prototypes use eye-tracking and facial scanning and were developed together with Rob Prouse during the artist’s six-month R&D (research and development) period with the Serpentine Arts Technologies team. Braithwaite-Shirley and Serpentine Arts Technologies invite you to continue exploring the civic and activist potential of gaming with us. Together, we will generate answers to the question: how can the audience be the controller, without using peripheral devices like joysticks, mice or keyboards?
This live, interactive murder mystery game and conversation will be hosted via Twitch by Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley and Tamar Clarke-Brown, Curator, (Commissions) Arts Technologies, Serpentine. During the conversation, there will be key moments for the audience to steer and participate. You will be invited to respond to our hosts directly via our Twitch channel chat interface to navigate a playtest especially developed for Twitch.
Your actions will determine what happens here. Your presence will determine whose voices can be heard… and whose are silenced.
The event streams live on Twitch (@serpentineuk) on Tuesday 24 May from 18:00 BST

The first edition of this playtesting series, WE CAN’T DO THIS ALONE, took place at Camberwell Greenscreen Studios on 11 April 2022. This live improv session invited the studio audience to become the actors as we live-test the new gaming prototypes.
