Chilean film-maker Raúl Ruiz (1941-2011), considered one of the most exciting and innovative figures to emerge from 1960s cinema, was a prolific director, writer and teacher, whose oeuvre is rarely available to English-speaking audiences.

This Park Nights  evening brought together actor Melvil Poupaud, Ruiz's long-time collaborator Paulo Branco and Ruiz's wife and fellow director Valeria Sarmiento. Participants included composer Jorge Arriagada, essayist and philosopher Andrés Claro, singer, actress and director Arielle Dombasle, actress, director and writer Miriam Heard, actress Marisa Paredes, artist Philippe Parreno, novelist Alan Pauls, Filmoteca Española's Director Chema Prado and poet Waldo Rojas. The evening featured screenings, music, talks, readings and food, inspired by Ruiz's work.

This special Raúl Ruiz Weekend included two screenings of Ruiz's films, Genealogies of a Crime (1997, with Catherine Deneuve, Michel Piccoli, Melvil Poupaud) at the Gate Picturehouse on 26 July and Klimt (2006, with John Malkovich, Veronica Ferres, Stephen Dillane) at the Hackney Picturehouse on 27 July.

Between June and October 2014, Serpentine Galleries presented Park Nights, an annual series of live art, poetry, music, film, literature, performance and theory. This summer, eight events took place on selected Friday evenings in the unique environment of the Serpentine Pavilion 2014, designed by Chilean architect Smiljan Radić.
