During the final weekend of his solo exhibition at Serpentine North Gallery, A Series of Utterly Improbable, Yet Extraordinary Renditions, acclaimed artist, filmmaker and cinematographer Arthur Jafa presents a Listening Session with Steve Coleman, Morgan Craft, Micah Gaugh, Melvin Gibbs, Jason Moran, Okwui Okpokwasili and Kokayi Carl Walker.

The Listening Session was recorded direct-to-disc on The Vinyl Factory Lathe which will be installed in the gallery. A limited vinyl edition has been released by The Vinyl Factory and Serpentine Galleries.

During this Listening Session, a dismembered jazz ensemble jams, performing separately and simultaneously as they are dispersed across London. Each musical act performs alone, at sites throughout the city. Performing artist Okwui Okpokwasili dances along to the discordant soundtrack as the musicians are livestreamed to an audience that gathers at the Magazine Restaurant, designed by the late Zaha Hadid, at the Serpentine North Gallery. Music by Steve Coleman, Morgan Craft, Micah Gaugh, Melvin Gibbs, Jason Moran and Kokayi Carl Walker.

Arthur Jafa’s exhibition was open until 10pm during the event.

Presented in collaboration with The Vinyl Factory.
