"Every building has a soul." – Architect Marina Tabassum on her 2025 Pavilion
Architect Marina Tabassum (Marina Tabassum Architects) and Serpentine Artistic Director Hans Ulrich Obrist discuss the 2025 Serpentine Pavilion. They speak about how Tabassum came to architecture, her advice to a young architect and the idea behind the Pavilion’s central courtyard, which aligns with Serpentine South’s bell tower.
The Pavilion’s title, ‘A Capsule in Time’, reflects its elongated, capsule-like shape. Inspired by summer park-going and arched garden canopies that filter soft daylight through green foliage, the structure is comprised of four wooden sculptural forms with a translucent façade that diffuses and dapples light.
