This summer, One of My Kind (OOMK) invite children and their families to design and print their own currency in Serpentine Pavilion.
Working with artists from OOMK, families can get rich quick by creating their own personal currency and minting their bank notes in a pop-up risograph studio hosted in the 2021 Serpentine Pavilion designed by Counterspace. Visitors to Money Machine will be encouraged to reflect on their relationship to money and think about how they can make paper special and valuable, challenging ideas of worth and wealth and rethinking what images and designs to include on bank notes.
Children will learn how to use a risograph printing press to duplicate their designs and will be given the opportunity to trade their money with other children in a special Money Exchange Centre.
Family Days are free, drop-in events that are most suitable for families with children aged 7 – 14, but all are welcome.
Please note that the Pavilion will be closed to other visitors on Saturday July 24 (all day) and Saturday August 14 (12-5pm) for the Summer Family Days. To keep everyone safe we have a reduced capacity in the Pavilion and families may need to wait a short time before entering.

About OOMK
One of My Kind (OOMK) is a collaborative publishing practice led by Rose Nordin, Sofia Niazi and Heiba Lamara. Working together since 2014, they make, publish and distribute books and printed works which arise from self-initiated projects. OOMK commissions new works by women artists and co-curate DIY Cultures, one of the UK’s largest annual independent publishing fairs. OOMK is a highly visual, handcrafted small-press publication. Printed biannually, its content pivots upon the imaginations, creativity and spirituality of women. Each issue centers around a different creative theme, with more general content exploring topics of faith, activism and identity. With a focus on self-publishing and education, OOMK founded and run a community Risograph printing press in East London, Rabbits Road Press. They work with galleries, museums, educational institutions and self-organised groups to deliver workshops and produce collaborative publications. OOMK are currently based between Old Manor Park Library (Rabbits Road Press) and Somerset House Studios.
Listening to the City
The event is part of Listening to the City, a programme that engages with a set of sonic landscapes from selected London neighbourhoods, paying attention to existing and lost spaces of gathering and belonging, with particular relevance to migrant communities across the city.
