This was Japanese artist Tadashi Kawamata’s first installation sited in an open space in Britain.
Kawamata’s installation was the final work on the Serpentine Gallery lawn before the gallery re-opened after its renovation, and was also the final installation in the gallery’s Inside Out program.
Kawamata used materials salvaged from the gallery’s renovation and incorporated elements of the original building’s architecture such as doors and window frames. The public were able to watch Kawamata work and walk through the finished installation.
