Ecology, Research and Ceremony

Alternative ways of knowing, artist-led practice and the role of ritual and spirit in fostering ecological cultures.

Through its programmes, Ecologies pays attention to forms of knowledge-keeping and knowledge-making that have historically been dismissed or repressed as ‘non-rational’. Ecologies’ programmes recognise that Western science is necessary to make sense of environmental damage and raise the alarm. At the same time, it believes in ritual, ceremony, stories, art, emotional and embodied connections as fundamental elements needed to support a cultural sea-change by which environmental justice and balance may take centre stage. As an expressive form that touches spirit, emotions and mind, art is fundamental for shifting the cultural precepts of any historical time. As such, Ecologies supports projects that encourage self-reflection, storytelling, conviviality and embodied knowing.
